GBP Checklist
Google Business Profile Optimization
The more updated and relevant information you have on your Google Business Profile (GBP), the more potential customers you will convert. This checklist can help you make sure your GBP is up to date and that you’re taking advantage of all that Google has to offer.
Each section of this checklist is a different section of the GBP dashboard.
Edit Profile
- Your full business name should match your DBA (Make sure none of the words are fully capitalized unless it’s an abbreviation as per Google’s policies).
- Choose the business category that best represents your business. You may choose one primary and multiple secondary categories if applicable.
- The description should be one or two paragraphs and can be up to 750 characters. The first 250 characters will be shown on Google search. Use first-person voice and at least match your website description.
- Add your opening date.
- If you don’t use tracking numbers: Add your business phone number.
- If you do use tracking numbers: Make the primary phone your tracking number and the additional phone your business number.
- Add a link to your Facebook page and any other active social accounts.
- An address is only used when your business has an actual shop, office, or location with signage customers can visit. If you operate out of your home, DO NOT list an address. Using a home address or PO box can cause a listing to be suspended.
- Match your service area to your territory. This will be a box/area on Google’s map search.
Zip codes can be used, but counties or cities are usually faster. - Add your business hours.
Read Reviews
- All reviews should be responded to promptly.
- Negative reviews can be changed or removed by the customer after contacting them directly to address their concerns.
- “Get More Reviews” provides a link you can send to your customers that will take them directly to your reviews page.
Photos
- Your profile should have a cover photo, preferably a franchise photo of the van and owner. A nice corporate photo can be used as well.
- Your profile should have a logo photo, which is the main logo for your brand. Make sure the photo the image is square.
- You can upload other photos as well, which will be marked as “from owner” – photos from jobs, before and after, photos of your team, etc.
Edit Products
- Products are traditionally for physical items sold by the business. However, if you don’t sell physical products, you can add services you offer instead.
- Each service should have a photo, a description, a link to your website, and a price (optional).
Edit Services
- Your primary service category should match your main business category.
- Add any other services you offer.
Bookings
- Add a link to the booking/request service page of your website. This should be the form for customers to submit a request.
Q&A
- Customers can ask questions about your business. Respond to any unanswered questions.
Add Update
- Posts should be made regularly, weekly if possible.
- Add a call-to-action button appropriate for the post.
- Offers should match website coupons/specials, with a photo included.
